10 Things You Need to Know About Fish For A Cure 2020

  1. “Quarantine Doesn’t Stop Cancer”

During these unprecedented times, patients undergoing a cancer diagnosis and treatment in our community need our help now more than ever with your support of Fish For A Cure. The Cancer Survivorship Program at Anne Arundel Medical Center’s Geaton and JoAnn DeCesaris Cancer Institute provides a critically needed lifeline for our patients and their families throughout the experience of living with, through and beyond cancer.

“Unfortunately, cancer won’t wait until this pandemic ends. We are here to navigate you through your journey during these trying times safely. Your health and safety remain our first priority.” – Dr. Adam Riker, Chair of Oncology at AAMC’s Geaton and JoAnn DeCesaris Cancer Institute

Thanks to you, our #F4ACQuaranteam, every dollar raised through F4AC and the Paul C. Dettor Captain’s Challenge directly impacts this life changing cancer care program for our friends, loved ones, and neighbors. For more information about getting involved, email fishforacure@aahs.org.

  1. F4AC 2020 is going virtual

To follow guidelines by the CDC and keep social distancing practices in place due to COVID-19, our 14th Annual F4AC Tournament, Paul C. Dettor Captain’s Challenge, and Shore Party will be hosted digitally this year.

Although we won’t be gathering in person, you can count on:

  • Fierce fishing and fundraising competition among friends in support of cancer care in our community
  • all the essentials for your own F4AC festivities to celebrate a great day on the Bay
  • the energetic and fun spirit of F4AC that we are so well known

  1. Catch & Release Tournament with Coastal Conservation Association Maryland

For the health and safety of our participants with social distancing guidelines outlined by the CDC in place, this year’s F4AC Tournament will be Catch & Release only and supported by Coastal Conservation Association Maryland. Using the iAngler smartphone app, anglers can easily upload a photo of their catch for tournament submission. Winning angler announcements will be made during our F4AC Virtual Shore Party.

What does this mean for the fishing competition?

  • more chances to win cool prizes with additional fishing divisions
  • more time on the water with our extended 5:00pm deadline for fish photo submissions
  • more time to trek to your favorite fishing hot spots without a ‘at the dock’ deadline

  1. The Captain’s Meeting location has changed

Our F4AC Captain’s Meeting will take place on Wednesday, November 4th from 4:00pm to 7:30pm at the Annapolis Maritime Museum. To keep safe social distancing measures in place, all registered crews will have a designated time to pick up their Captain’s bucket, signature t-shirts, and enjoy bites and brews.

Tune in later that evening with an interactive live stream with our F4AC crew, expert fishing guides, and our partners at Coastal Conservation Association Maryland to learn our 2020 Tournament rules and procedures. More details coming soon.
